Wire Forming for Buckles and Chains
Wire forming bends copper, iron or other specified wire into repeatable three-dimensional profiles. It is used for line buckles, D-rings, square rings and prong buckles; chain links can be made using a similar forming process before joining and finishing.
Forming the profile
Section titled “Forming the profile”A buckle-forming machine feeds wire, bends it to the programmed or tooled shape, then cuts or transfers the formed piece. Wire diameter, material condition, bend radius, closing position and tool wear all affect consistency. Review the process together with the required opening, load path, pin movement and visible surfaces.
Check after forming
Section titled “Check after forming”Confirm the outside and inside dimensions, symmetry, overlap or closure, sharp ends and movement with mating parts. Forming marks, cut burrs and open joints can remain visible after plating, so agree the required deburring, welding or joining process and finish before volume production.
