Deburring
Deburring removes sharp flash and burrs from a blank after casting, stamping or machining. This includes removing burrs from internal holes that could scratch or cut a user’s hand before the part proceeds to finishing, assembly or functional testing.
Match the method to the feature
Section titled “Match the method to the feature”Start by identifying edges that could cut a user and features that must retain a precise fit. Brush or tumble light burrs; use manual scraping or a dedicated tool for holes, slots and critical edges. Batch tumbling is not a substitute for precise edge finishing.
Verify before finishing
Section titled “Verify before finishing”Use visual and safe-touch checks, then recheck the hole size and fit. Over-grinding can enlarge a hole, while a missed internal burr can cause injury, poor assembly or plating defects.
